Kevin J. Mullins, MD, FAANS, FACS
Dr. Kevin J. Mullins, Chair of Neurosurgery at South Shore University Hospital, is a board-certified neurosurgeon who specializes in the management of spinal and cranial disorders. Dr. Mullins has performed over 6,000 neurosurgical operations and specializes in the management of neck and back problems. He performs a full spectrum of surgical procedures ranging from minimally invasive to complex spinal reconstruction with a focus on the proper indications for surgery. Dr. Mullins strongly utilizes evidence based medicine in the decision making process for all of his patients with surgical intervention reserved for those patients who have exhausted all non-surgical options.
Dr. Mullins has been in practice on Long Island since 1998. Prior to this, he was a Clinical Associate Professor of Neurosurgery at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, MA, (1997-1998). In 2000, he was named the Chief of Neurosurgery at both Good Samaritan University Hospital and South Shore University Hospital and began a two decade long process of developing state of the art neurosurgical services at both institutions.
Between 2000 and 2010, Dr. Mullins recruited multiple new neurosurgeons into his practice and began the process of creating neurosurgical subspecialties with neurosurgeons having fellowship training in neuro-oncology and spine surgery with substantial expansion of services at both hospitals.
In 2017, Dr. Mullins founded SpineCare Long Island - in 2023 the practice name changed to NeuroCare Long Island, and has been focused on providing compassionate and convenient care for patients with spinal disorders. In 2024, NeuroCare Long Island became part of Northwell Health and Dr. Mullins was named Chair of Neurosurgery at South Shore University Hospital. Prioritizing patient outcomes, SpineCare NeuroCare Long Island brings care to the patient and utilizes evidence-based outcomes to choose the right treatment for each individual patient.
