Amrit K. Chiluwal, MD, FAANS
Dr. Amrit K. Chiluwal is a fellowship-trained, board-certified neurosurgeon dedicated to providing personalized, patient-centered care. He has particular expertise in the treatment of degenerative conditions of the cervical and lumbar spine, as well as brain and spinal tumors.
Dr. Chiluwal believes that surgery should be considered carefully and, whenever possible, reserved as a last resort. He develops individualized treatment plans tailored to each patient’s specific diagnosis, symptoms, goals, and lifestyle. When surgery is necessary, he emphasizes minimally invasive techniques to reduce postoperative pain, promote faster recovery, and minimize hospital stays.
For appropriately selected patients, Dr. Chiluwal also performs non-fusion procedures, including artificial disc replacement, with the goal of preserving spinal motion and avoiding spinal fusion when clinically appropriate. Before his current role, he served as Director of Spine Surgery at St. Francis Hospital and Heart Center in Roslyn, New York.
Dr. Chiluwal’s commitment to minimally invasive surgery extends to cranial procedures. He utilizes smaller incisions, endoscopic techniques, advanced image-guided navigation, and fluorescence-guided surgery to remove tumors located deep within the brain as safely and minimally invasively as possible.
He has presented his work at national, international, and regional neurosurgical conferences. Dr. Chiluwal is a member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons and the Congress of Neurological Surgeons. He has published his scholarly work extensively in medical and scientific journals. He also has a strong interest in global neurosurgery and has participated in volunteer medical work in various parts of the world.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Chiluwal enjoys spending time with his wife and Finn, the family dachshund. His interests include pickleball, chess, hiking, and traveling.
